The MIJ 9 Tennen Ai Natural Indigo Selvedge is a 15 oz Japanese selvedge denim dyed using natural indigo from different dye lots. Natural indigo is an unstable dye, so each batch or “dye lot” produces a slightly different shade of indigo. When you use different dye lots to dye a single pair of jeans, you get a full spectrum of indigo hues running throughout the fabric. Couple the streakiness in color with vertical slubs and a low-tension weave for a spectacular denim that celebrates the irregularity of the natural world in a fabric that looks and feels like it could have been handmade. The MIJ 9 is unsanforized but tempi treated to preserve the beauty of the fabric but also eliminate any guesswork in sizing by pre-shrinking the fabric.
